Barriers to PIH management and possible solutions: Patient’s perspective

Pregnancy Induced Hypertension is a pattern of high blood pressure during pregnancy. It one the major causes maternal mortality and neonatal morbidity in world, contributing about 5-14% pregnant women globally (Arshad et al., 2014). In Zimbabwe, despite availability guidelines for PIH management, still contribute 19.4% (Muti 2015) more than global statistics. For this reason, study sought to assess barriers management possible solutions or strategies. The strategies will help curb both mortality. employed descriptive qualitative design. Focus group discussions (FGDs), each with 8 participants, were held Bindura District provincial Hospital. Women diagnosed PIH, age 18 49 years included these able speak Shona English. Approval was obtained from respective ethical review boards. FGDs followed semi-structured questionnaire. Comprehensive notes taken interviews which also being audiotaped. Data analyzed thematically manually. Themes identified management. Barriers poor cultural practices, religious employment use herbs. Possible develop culture-specific health education interventions improve seeking behavior patients reduce adverse perinatal outcomes. Husbands as family heads be actively involved accompanying their wives hospital. This critical improving ANC visits general among women.
